Context: Extracurricular spaces play an important role in initial teacher education, a topic of great relevance in the academic field. This text describes the document analysis conducted with documents related to the Institutional Program of Scholarships for Teaching Initiation and the Tutorial Education Program. The analysis of the programs focused on the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul and its Geography Teaching Degree course, and the material was initially separated according to its scope in this sense. Methodology: After this separation, categories were created for better analysis of the documents. A description was written for each category, and their contribution to higher education qualification and research itself was analyzed. Considerations: Both programs are promoters, promoting teacher appreciation and bridging the gap between academic realities and classroom realities, contributing to the quality of the Geography Teaching Degree course at UFRGS.
