Context: Current society is undergoing changes related to technological development, especially in communication methods. Schools need to adapt to this reality by rethinking their teaching approaches. The Nova Londres Group proposes the Theory of Multiliteracy, which emphasizes the importance of considering linguistic and cultural diversity, as well as different communication media, in educational practice. Methodology: In the Geography - Teaching degree course at the Federal University of Santa Maria, future teachers are instructed to create multimodal materials that incorporate this theory into their classes. After studying multiliteracy, topics were selected and materials were planned. After being validated and evaluated in an 8th grade class at EMEF Santa Helena, the students' interest and the effectiveness of certain activities were verified. Considerations: As educators and researchers, it is our role to promote this discussion and explore new educational approaches that consider the changes in current society. The Theory of Multiliteracy offers a valuable perspective for rethinking teaching practices, valuing the diversity of languages and communication media present in today's society.
